Branding for Techstars’ annual foundercon

Overview

Techstars holds an annual event for program founders called Foundercon— a celebration of the impact and power of entrepreneurship to create a better world. Techstars asked Green Stone to evolve their brand identity to better represent their lively and human brand for their 2022 Foundercon. After a three-year pause due to COVID-19, Green Stone helped Techstars return to in-person events with a big spark of energy and enthusiasm. The success led to an ongoing partnership focused on pushing and evolving their branding forward, and building upwards from the flexible foundations we established.

I joined the team as a motion graphics designer to help enhance the visual communication of our established logos, glyphs, and systems. With an in-person event, we needed to ensure the liveliness of our branding translated to the audience. I embarked on logo animation, transitions, and background visuals to eliminate real-time buffer. Through animation, I brought static vectors to life and created boilerplates to set Techstars’ production team up for success, defining motion, movement, and intention.

Reflection

Incorporating motion is a powerful way to captivate and hold a viewer’s attention. With a 3-day event that is meant to be engaging and memorable, the usage of subtle motion allowed for background assets to come to life. It was vital to consider the boldness of our glyphs, and ensure that when I added the layer of animation, it was to elevate the glyph rather than distract.

Through this, Techstar’s had the assets to create a continuously engaging environment with reduced buffer periods, smooth transitions between events, and design an animated experience for the attendees.
